New PANCO Course Launches: Nutrition & Planetary Health

PAN International has launched a new advanced online course on PANCO to help health professionals connect the evidence across diet, disease, food systems, planetary health, and clinical practice.

We are pleased to announce the launch of Nutrition & Planetary Health, PAN’s new advanced online course now available on PANCO.

The course has been developed to support clinicians, medical students, dietitians, public health professionals, and the wider health workforce in understanding the growing connection between dietary patterns, human health, planetary health, and clinical practice.

Climate change has been described by the World Health Organization as the single biggest health threat facing humanity. At the same time, dietary patterns remain one of the most important drivers of health outcomes. For health professionals, these connections are becoming increasingly relevant to patient care, prevention, public health, and the future of healthcare.

About the course

Nutrition & Planetary Health provides an evidence-based foundation on how dietary patterns influence both human and planetary health, and how this knowledge can be applied in clinical and population-level guidance.

Across 5 modules, learners will explore how dietary patterns influence human health, how food systems affect planetary health, and how healthy and sustainable diets can support more informed guidance for patients and populations.

The course is designed for busy learners and includes practical examples, knowledge checks, quizzes, and opportunities to deepen understanding through recommended further reading.

Why this course matters

Nutrition education is becoming increasingly important in a changing healthcare landscape. Health professionals are being asked to understand not only how diet affects individual health outcomes, but also how food systems shape planetary health and how environmental change can influence nutrition and health.

This course brings these perspectives together in one practical, evidence-based learning experience, helping health professionals build confidence in understanding and applying healthy and sustainable diet concepts in clinical and public health contexts.
